On 19 October 2005, New Zealand Post proudly issued the special stamp set to commemorate the released of the fantasy adventure film which directed by Peter Jackson, King Kong.
King Kong is a remake of the 1933 film of the same name and stars Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody. Andy Serkis, through performance capture, portrays Kong.
Although the film performed lower than expectations, King Kong made domestic and worldwide grosses that eventually added up to $550 million becoming the fourth-highest grossing movie in Universal Pictures history.
Entertainment Weekly called the depiction of Kong the most convincing computer generated character in film in 2005.Movie reviewers, who gave King Kong critical praise, consider it one of the all-round best movies of 2005, though it has been criticized for its 3 hour, 7 minute running time. It won Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Sound Editing.
The issue consist of 5 postage stamps depicted the image taken from the original film , King Kong character (45c), the remaining depicted Ann character ($1.35) and her colleague.
