Extreme Sports - Life on the Edge



New Zealand Post has issued the stamp set features the extreme sports which have high level of inherent danger (“Life on the edge”) on December 1, 2004. The issue consisted of 5 stamps  depicted the inherent danger sport like snow sport, whitewater rafting, jet boating, bungee jumping, and skydiving.

An extreme sport, also called adventure sport is a popular term for certain activities perceived as having a high level of inherent danger. These activities often involve speed, height, a high level of physical exertion, and highly specialized gear or spectacular stunts.

White water rafting in New Zealand  have a range of grade based on the  rivers  condition . Based in Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand, guided white water rafting options on five different rivers, graded from 2 to 5. These trips vary in duration, ranging from 45 minutes to half days and up to four days, as well as one-off excursions to conquer new waters.
Rafting is all about excitement, relaxation and teamwork. The sport have like to embrace each rafting adventure at a leisurely pace,  multiple sensations such as the exhilaration and thrill from nature's powerful forces at work, the whitewater and the respect that it commands. Skydiving, also known as parachuting , is the action of exiting an aircraft and returning to earth with the aid of gravity while using a parachute to slow down during the final part of the descent. It may or may not involve a certain amount of free-fall, a time during which the parachute has not been deployed and the body gradually accelerates to terminal velocity.

Bungee jumping is an activity that involves jumping from a tall structure while connected to a large elastic cord. The tall structure is usually a fixed object, such as a building, bridge or crane; but it is also possible to jump from a movable object, such as a hot-air-balloon or helicopter, that has the ability to hover above the ground. The thrill comes as much from the free-falling as from the rebounds.The injury can happen if the safety harness fails, the cord elasticity is miscalculated, or the cord is not properly connected to the jump platform.
