Tomos Colibri T 12–Legendary Moped

On September 23, 2011,  Slovenia Post issued the commemorative stamp set of the Tomos Colibri T12 as a legendary moped. The issue only one stamp depicted model of Tomos Colibri T12.

The Tomos Colibri T 12 is a legendary moped which was first produced in 1961. The moped was powered by a two-stroke motor with a displacement of 49 cm3, which generated a peak power of 1.7 kW, and with the help of a three-speed manual transmission reached a top speed of 60 km/h.

The moped became popular mainly because of its utilitarian qualities. It was economical, safe and comfortable, which satisfied people’s needs for overcoming was an alternative to the rare cars and limited public transportation for rural inhabitants.

In 1966,  Tomos  factory manufactured 31,950 mopeds, which was 70 per cent of their production that year, and 66 per cent of all motorcycles produced in Yugoslavia. The Colibri T 12 is a synonym for the wealth of technical tradition on which Tomos built its reputation.
