Gastronomy of Gibraltar – Europa 2005

Gastronomy can diverse from the origin of a country or ethnic group. The most recipe of Gibraltar have influence by the ethnic origin from Genoese (Italy), Maltese and Portuguese. In relation with the theme of Europa 2005, Gibraltar Post issued the stamp series depicted specific food, like The Torta de acelga- spinach pie (shown on top right), The Robalo a la parilla – grilled Sea-Bass ( shown on top left), The Rolitos de ternera- veal birds (shown bottom right) and The Sherry Trifle-popular sweet (shown bottom left)

The “Robalo a la parilla” –grilled Sea-Bass, recipe comes from Portugal. The fish is prepared with chopped spring onions, persley, lemon juice and olive oil. After that the fish to be grilled.

The “Torta de acelga” – spinach pie, recipe comes from Genoa (Italy). All material are spinach, egg, garlic, chese, olive oil marjoram, chopped parsley to be prepared and puff pastry for the lining and the cover as seen in the image.

The “Sherry Trifle” – the popular sweet recipe comes from Britain, made with strawberry jelly, custard, whipping cream, sliced peaches and 'Boudoir’ biscuits soaked in Sherry cream.

The “ Rolitos de ternera” – veal birds, recipe comes from Malta. It is made whit thinly cut veal, hard-boiled eggs and lean ham. The veal is rolled in to a ball containing the egg and ham. It is normally served with peas and potatoes.

Gibraltar have many recipe, but only four have chosen to apply on stamps and promote of Gibraltar traditional food to the world. Its look like Gibraltar as a heaven of the traditional food in the world.
