Giant devil ray on fdc

Gibraltar Post has collaborated with WWF organization to issue the stamp of Giant Devil Ray. In accordance to the IUCN Red List, the species are classified in endangered species.




Giant devil ray, Mobula mobular, or known well as the devil fish of the Mediterranean Sea is an Eagle ray in the family Myliobatidae and posses a spiny tail. They feed on crustaceans and small fishes. They are low rate in reproduction. Due to unintended capture by fishing vessels and worse pollution in the Mediterranean Sea, population of this species tend to decrease.

Lunar eclipse

Ascention Island has issued the commemorate stamps of Lunar eclipse on October 2004, in 4 different denomination values and the official First Day Cover.


A lunar eclipse is an eclipse that occurs when the moon passes behind the earth such that the earth blocks the sun’s rays from striking the moon. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, there is always a full moon the night of a lunar eclipse. The type and length of an eclipse depend upon the Moon’s location relative to its orbital nodes.

Elton John - singer on Malta's stamp

Malta Post has issued the stamp with background of Elton John , a famous singer on July 2003. His picture depicted the singer in many decades.


Sir Elton Hercules John is an English singer-songwriter, composer and pianist. He was born as Reginald Kenneth Dwight on 25 March 1947. John has sold more than 200 million records in his four-decade career and making him one of the most successful artists of all time. His single "Candle in the Wind 1997" has sold over 37 million copies, becoming the best selling single of all time. He has won five Grammy awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a Tony Award. His success has impact on popular music and has contributed to the continued popularity of the piano in rock and roll.

Traditional Mask of Indonesia


Mask is used to represent the character embodiment of a figure. It is also related with the aesthetics aspect, history, and religious ceremonies. The face of a mask tends commonly caricature in nature to get an impressive image. Detail of contour, colour, and accessories on mask usually inherent with the character of the figure the user.


In year 2001, Indonesian Post Office issued the serial mask, depicted Arsa Wijaya Mask (Bali), Wayang Wong (Jogjakarta), Hudoq (East Kalimantan), Cirebonese Mask (West Java), andAsmat (Irian Jaya).

Traditional Communication system on stamps

Communication is behavior that human being to convey the messages. With communication, human share their feeling.




The communication needs some of tools or symbols that should understandable by both receiver or sender of messages.The information and communication era developed fast. Initially communication began with simple instrument.













In reminder of this fact, Indonesian Post Office has issued the Traditional Communication Instrument stamp series, which depicted kentongan (kind of percussion instrument made of bamboo or wood), beduk (drum), bende (kind of percussion instrument made of bronze) and nafiri (trumpet). All stamp in same denomination value, 900 rupiah.

Cuscus


Indonesia and Australia joint issued the stamp series, Cuscus. Both country have similar genus of cuscus but differ species. Indonesia known well for the Bear Cuscus (Kuskus beruang), while Australia have the Common Cuscus Spotted (Kuskus Totol).


Cuscus is the common name generally given to the species within the four genera of Australasian
possum. The genera whose species are generally referred to as cuscuses are: Ailurops, Phalanger,
Spilocuscus, and Strigocuscus.

Indonesia Post several time issued stamp series of the environment care . This issue depicted theme of marine life preservative. The pictures shown shark, sea turtle and sea bird on same denomination value of stamp Rp. 2,500.
