Gaza- Jericho Agreement on stamp


The souvenir sheet of the Palestine Authority depicted the historical moment that Palestine and Israeli achieve a peace agreement, Jasser Arafat (Chairman for Palestine Authority) and Yitzhak Rabin(Prime Minister for Israeli ) witnessed by Bill Clinton (President for USA), Andrei Kozyrev (foreign minister for Russia) on 13 September 1993. It was the first direct, face-to-face agreement between the government of Israel and political representatives of the Palestinian people.

The Gaza-Jericho Agreement was a follow-up treaty to the Oslo Accords in which the details of Palestinian autonomy were concluded. Negotiations concerning the agreements were completed in Oslo, Norway on 20 August 1993, and the Accords was officially signed subsequently at a public ceremony in Washington D.C. on 13 September 1993 in the presence of Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) chairman Yasser Arafat, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and U.S. President Bill Clinton.

The documents were signed by Mahmoud Abbas for the Palestine Liberation Organization, foreign Minister Shimon Peres for Israel, Secretary of State Warren Christopher for the United States and foreign minister Andrei Kozyrev for Russia. The Treaty provided for Palestinian self-rule in the West Bank and Gaza Strip within five years.

This moment have resulted the Noble Peace Prize 1994 released for them.
